Hello World

I have absolutely nothing to blog about, but, being the blogger that I am thought that I would find some nonsense to write about.

Oh, ignore what you just read, I do have something that is very blog-worthy! I read about a couple of knitting DVDs this morning in the Knitter's Review newsletter. These are not your basic learn to knit DVDs that we see popping up everywhere these days, rather these are for those of us who already know how to knit. In reading the index of the dvds I've decided that I want volume 2 if for no other reason than the steeks, apparently it covers all you ever wanted to know about steeks but were afraid to ask! I'm horrified at the thought of steeks! Anyway, I'm sure that you would like to know what DVDs I'm talking about. Well, the wonderful Lucy Neatby is the mastermind behind these knitting lovelies, so you know they've got to be good! You can find more info on her Knitting Essential DVDs here. I think that they are very reasonably priced at $29.00 each!

Alas, I won't be ordering one today since in the past week I have ordered yarn twice from KnitPicks, once from Lambikins (that's the Malabrigo, it got here in 2 days! I'm currently using it in a new scarf pattern I've written..it's very, very yummy yarn!) and, last, but certainly not least of all..I finally ordered some SWTC A-maizing yarn from my friend, Cheryl at DivaKnitting. So, as you can see, I've ordered my quoto of knitty things for the week! In all actuality, I'm done with yarn ordering for the month...or so goes the plan! In my defense, I had to place another order with KnitPicks because they had a sale going for a short time and I needed some more MainLine yarn. Then there's the Malabrigo; several of my friends from KnittingHelp have raved about it so much that I had to give it a try! And, then, my friend Cheryl has a wonderful sale going on some of her SWTC yarns and I wanted to try A-maizing (it's made from corn for goodness sakes..don't you want to try it, too?!) and couldn't pass on this deal!

I need your ideas!!!! I will continue to take your submissions for contest ideas for the rest of the week. I will then announce the contest on Monday. I've gotten some really good ideas thus far, but need more! So far we have:

Idea 1. from Roxtarchic: "how about guessing WHAT THE YARN was & the NEEDLES used (size, brand) extra credit for how many skeins used...? "
Idea 2. from Amber: "How about a Blog scavenger hunt -- you could have a list of 5 things, like find a knitting blog with "Red" in the title, or find a knitting blog that has a photo of a knitted tea cup...etc. Then you could draw a name from among all the people who successfully complete the hunt!"
Idea 3. from Trek: "I hosted a contest last winter in which I asked readers to guess how much the first sock of a pair weighed. I gave the hint that it was good that I had two 100-gm balls of the same yarn/same dyelot so that they would know that the sock did indeed weigh more than 50-gm."
Idea 4. from Dorothy: "You could get people to guess how many balls of yarn you organized and posted about in the previous post." (this is referring to organizing my stash!)
Idea 5. from earthchick: "If your name is Stacey and you have a blog called earthchicknits, you win."
Idea 6. another from earthchick: (she's very excited about the contest, she continues with her ideas!) "If your name is Stacey and you have curly red hair and live in Ann Arbor and have twin sons and knit, you win." (Side note from me...ya'll better get busy with more ideas, earthchick already has 2 ideas submitted, both with the prize going straight to some girl named Stacey. LOL!!)
Idea 7. from Sharon G.: "If your name is SHARON and you have curly DARK hair..."
Idea 8. from Sharon: "Now as for the contest, you could always fill a crate or basket full of yarn and get everyone to guess how many balls of yarn there are!!"
Idea 9. another from Sharon: "I like the above comment but how about "if your name is Sharon with dark blonde hair...."
Idea 10. another from roxtarchic: "how about a poetry contest... everyone hasta write a verse about a subject of YOUR CHOOSING and then everyone can vote... BUT you getta do the rockstar supernova thing & pick the one you like the best.

As for the goodies, I still have to go to the yarn shop, but I'm leaning toward 2 hanks of Lorna's Laces Shepherd sock yarn (or a really nice sock yarn if my local yarn shop is out of LL), a set of size 1 or 2 dpns and the pattern for Leaves of Whimsy socks.

I welcome any and all submissions. But, beware, everything must be rated PG. And, I'm sorry to say that I really can't use the "names" although, wouldn't that be funny?! I could really just do the one about ....if your name is Becka.........

Had to pop in with this addition to this post...in the last 2 weeks I've lost 9 lbs!!!!! I'm so excited, I'm happy dancing all over the place!

I've got an idea for a contest...only I want to use it myself once my exam craze is over ;-)
But here's another one: You could post a pic of a knitting related item or a yarn and we would have to guess what it is/which brand it is.

You're not the only one terrified by steeks. I'd like to try it before I die, but I don't know.

I know KP had that sale, but even though I couldn't take advantage, I'm glad you did!

It is nice to know there are DVDs out there beyond the basics - one of these days I might have to look into them. I love that your yarn diet is going so well....it is so hard NOT to buy yarn! Good luck with the contest - I love that Lorna's - Andrea gave me 2 hanks in that exact colorway during the KH swap! I love earthchick's new idea and Amber's idea.

Well done on losing weight, I am not sure how much that is in kilos but I think it is about 4 1/2 which is quite a lot. Being 5 foot 2, I have struggled with my weight all my adult life, a small frame only needs a small amount of food so as soon as I over indulge, on go the kilos :(

Hey Becka - just a note to say that I do love visiting your blog. You've got a great positive spirit. CONGRATS on the weight loss too...wouldn't it be great if we could replace each pound of excess weight with a pound of the yarn of our choice???
*sigh* In a perfect world.

Steeking?! As EZ says, once you do it, go lay in a dark room for 20 minutes to get over the trauma. I'd need a week. And several boxes of Kleenex.

I love Amber's idea of the scavanger hunt!

Congrats on your weight loss--I'm so proud of you! You've got such a lively spirit that even bedrest doesn't stop you from doing Pilates!

It's great fun reading the contest ideas.

Congrats on the weight loss! It's all the speed knitting that did it, right?

Once you get the DVD's I hope you will give us a review!
